Generali Replaces 800 German Roles to Join the AI Race

Italian insurance, Generali announced a massive plan today through its German branch, revealing it will eliminate around 800 jobs by the end of 2030. The change will impact about 9% of its total workforce in the country, though the company plans to handle the transition smoothly without forced layoffs by relying on voluntary retirements and natural staff departures over the next four years. At the same time, Generali is shutting down several physical offices to save on real estate costs now that hybrid work models are the norm, choosing instead to pour over €100 million directly into updating its AI and digital technology. This shift highlights how massive, traditional financial corporations are actively moving away from heavy physical office footprints to fund leaner, machine driven operations. This certainly won't be the last time we hear about this strategy, as a huge wave of companies are currently using the hybrid work transition as a cover to replace their employees with AI to save as much money as they can.
